(教育)新品種大學將使英國成為「世界上研究科學最好的地方」

英國政府希望能夠鼓勵成立新層級的大學，著重在科學、技術和研究生訓練。科學部長David Willetts說，不會有額外的公共資金來資助新的大學，但英國的研究總部將會透過私人和國際投資來建造。

Willetts說，政府的野心是要讓英國「成為世界上研究科學最好的地方。」他希望，某間國外大學可能也會想要和英國大學建立姊妹校的關係，並在英國設立研究所，或是英國某個城市可以提供一個新機構的位置，並邀請現有大學、企業和國際合作夥伴發出提案。

政府將不再提供資金，並且正在尋求企業的私人投資或贊助，他們於日後將可以從雇用更多英國學生得到好處。政府確實承諾會取消任何可能會拖慢機構成立的繁文縟節。

英國有一個國際推崇的科學研究總部，但是在商業或企業投資研究上，落後於其他像是德國、日本和美國等國家。

(Education) New Breed of University Will Make UK Best Place in the World to Do Science

The UK government wants to encourage the formation of a new class of university that will focus on science, technology and postgraduate training. Science Minister David Willetts said that there will be no extra public funding for the new universities but that the UKs research base would be built through private and international investment.

Willetts said that the governments ambition was to make the UK the best place in the world to do science. He is hoping that a foreign university might want to form a partnership with a British university and set up a research institute in the UK or one of the British cities may offer a location for the new institution and has called for proposals from existing universities, businesses and international partners.

The government will no longer supply funding and is looking for private investors or sponsorship from businesses that would benefit from employing more British graduates. The government does promise the removal of any red tape which might slow down the establishment of the institutions.

Britain has an internationally respected science research base but is behind other nations like Germany, Japan and the US in terms of business and industrial investments in research.
